Choosing the right photographer for you
Choosing a photographer isn’t always easy, epically in a time where there are so many photographers. So,
How do you choose the right photographer for you?
-Be picky
When choosing a photographer make sure to be picky. These are moments in time you want to have captured to look back on forever, so make sure you’ll love them forever. If there are things you don’t like about the work a photographers already done don’t ignore that. While certain things aren’t parrallel in every shoot and photographers tend to add their own artistic touch on each shoot there are other things that remain pretty consistent. Be mindful of this when choosing your photographer.
-Know your budget
Remember; there is a photographer for everyone, but not every photographer is for you. A low budget does not always mean low quality work, if you are careful in selecting you can find what you need for most all budgets! Don’t be afraid to tell a photographer they are outside of your budget! They may even have suggestions for other photographers with similar styles closer to your budget!
-Ask about a payment plan
If you find a photographer whose talent is obvious and whose artistic style matches what you are looking for consider asking about a payment plan. Not all photographers do them, but it never hurts to ask, and it could get you exactly what you want without spending such a large amount all at once.
-Check reviews
One of the easiest ways to see if a photographer will work well for you is by checking out reviews. Remember that most people are quick to leave a negative review when dissatisfied so positive reviews really speaks to the character and skill of a photographer!
-Check portfolios
Like I said; if you are carful in the selection process you can almost always find what you want within your budget, it just takes work. Part of that work is looking at portfolios. A photographer’s portfolio is an amazing way to get a realistic expectation of what you will receive from them. Every shoot or event is different of course but getting a general idea of past work can really help you to Invision your photos. Asking for look at a previous client’s full gallery is also a great idea. Seeing a full gallery gives you a look at it all, from the very best pictures to the ones with a little less pizazz.
-Communicate clearly
Remember that your photographer isn’t a mind reader, make sure to voice all of your thoughts, opinions and concerns when discussing potential shoots or events. Make a list with your “must have” shots, the ones you don’t want to walk away without and give it to your photographer, so they know what to prioritize when shooting.
-Ask for a Consultation
A consultation is the very best way to make sure that a photographer is right for you. You don’t need a set consultation for every mini shoot but when it comes to big events or important mile stone shoots I would highly suggest them. You don’t want to choose a photographer just off of budget and style and now make sure that you have a chemistry with that person. No one likes an awkward shoot, and having a good rapport can take you a long way and really make a difference in the end result you receive. If your photographer isn’t able to do an in-person consultation, or it just isn’t your style, try requesting a virtual consultation.
